Kevin Hayward

Trombone, Conductor

        Kevin Hayward was born and raised on the beautiful island of Bermuda. In 1985 he moved to Toronto to study music and earned his bachelor of Music Education degree at the faculty of music, University of Toronto.  During this time, he performed with the Toronto Youth Symphony, helped to form the Toronto Trombone Ensemble and joined The Salvation Army's Canadian Staff Band. Over the last 25 years, Kevin has enjoyed making music with many significant ensembles and artists, including: the Hannaford Street Silver Band, the Tallisker Players Orchestra and the internationally acclaimed jazz trombone group, Spiritual to the 'bone. He has travelled around the world sharing his love of music with many groups, as conductor, clinician and performer. Beginning in 2002 Kevin served as bandmaster of the Canadian Staff Band of The Salvation Army for a period of four years. In addition, Kevin has been asked to serve as an adjudicator at the Kiwanis, Musicfest Canada and OBA music festivals, in addition to the International Women's Brass Conference. Kevin has had his arrangements performed around the world by groups such as the International Staff Band of The Salvation Army, the New York Philharmonic Brass ensemble and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon. Kevin is currently the Director of Music at the Toronto District Christian High School in Woodbridge.
